Strathcona County is making improvements to the Bethel Transit Terminal to ensure a safe and sustainable roadway.
Work will be completed between May and October 2024. See project map (1.1 MB)
Impact to Transit customers
Bus schedules will remain the same. However, in an effort to maintain schedules, Transit will not be able to hold buses. We anticipate minor delays and encourage riders to take an earlier bus if their schedules are tight.
What to expect:
- Users should arrive early to allow extra time for finding buses.
- Pedestrian detours will be in place—please watch for signs and barricades.
- Bus travel routes within the terminal will be affected at times.
- Pick-up and drop-off points will be temporarily changed during different phases of work.
Note: The terminal parking lot is not affected by construction.
About the project
This project involves replacing the perimeter asphalt roadway within the terminal. Spot concrete repairs are also planned, but pending budget.
Construction will be completed in phases to ensure the terminal can remain open and functional through construction.
Phases include:Â
- Removal of the existing asphalt road surface
- Road base repairs or reconstruction, as needed
- Installation of new road base material
- Drainage improvements
- Installation of a new concrete pavement surface
- Curb and gutter replacement, fence replacement, line painting and landscaping.
Provincial grant funding
Most of the project construction cost is covered by a provincial grant, with only 10 per cent of the cost paid for by the County.
