Edmonton-Strathcona County Footbridge

Construction for the new pedestrian footbridge over the North Saskatchewan River is almost complete. Strathcona County, the City of Edmonton, and the River Valley Alliance are working together to bring this exciting project to life – creating stronger regional connections and easier access to the River Valley's extensive trail network.

Once complete, the bridge will connect Strathcona County (Township Road 540) with the City of Edmonton (167 Avenue). It will also link directly to The Great Trail of Canada (Trans-Canada Trail) through the local trail systems.

Footbridge features

  • Gathering areas at each end of the bridge
  • Shared-use pathways to connect with existing trails
  • Two scenic lookout points offering views of the river and valley

Located near the Riverside Nature Trail (664.6 KB) , this new bridge invites residents and visitors to explore the outdoors in new ways – on foot or bike.

Support Amenities project

Strathcona County will be constructing supportive amenities along Township Road 540 that has been partially supported by Government of Canada grant funding. The supportive amenities include the construction of:

  • A parking lot
  • Multi-use trail connection along Township Road 540
  • Public portable washroom facilities
