Community Centre’s Green earns Gold!

The Strathcona County Community Centre received LEED® Gold Certification by the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) in 2013.

Building design, technology and materials were chosen for greatest operating efficiency, cost effectiveness and benefit to the environment.

The Community Centre’s “green” features deliver a highly efficient building to operate, reducing impact on natural resources, and provide a healthier place to work in and visit.

It’s a building that demonstrates Strathcona County’s commitment to sustainability, and makes a positive difference for our environment.

What is LEED®?

The LEED® — Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — green building rating system encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. It is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

LEED® promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance the areas of:

  • materials selection
  • indoor environmental quality
  • energy efficiency
  • water efficiency
  • innovation and design
