Simple sparks can cause wildfires. It is important that you make sure to keep you, your family and the surrounding area safe when enjoying a recreational fire or open burning (in rural areas).

During the spring before the grass greens up, the risk of wildfire increases. Here are the top three ways you can help reduce fires:

  1. If you smoke, make sure you use a proper container to dispose of your butts.
  2. Before burning or enjoying a fire, make sure to check if there are any fire advisories or bans in effect.
  3. If you are riding off-road vehicles, avoid areas with long dry grasses. The tailpipe is very hot and can spark a fire.

If you see a fire, call 9-1-1.
