We encourage our residents to report graffiti vandalism through County Connect to the Recreation, Parks and Culture department. If the graffiti is on a private property painted residential fence, we provide support to the home owner by a free coupon for a graffiti removal kit (includes, paint, roller, tray, brush and gloves). We encourage prompt removal as the research indicates that it deters graffiti vandals. This is the best way for residents to protect their property and preserve the image of their neighbourhood.
With your County Connect graffiti report, we share it with the appropriate department for prompt removal, contact the home owner if on a residential fence, report to the appropriate utility company for removal and/or share information with the RCMP. Once you have sent in the graffiti through county connect, please also report graffiti to the RCMP non-emergency complaint line at 780-467-7741.
Anti-graffiti decorative wraps on utility cabinets
In 2012 Strathcona County and Fortis Alberta jointly funded a pilot project to cover four utility cabinets with an anti-graffiti photo wrap. The application acts as a preventative measure and the response by residents has been very positive. Fortis Alberta has since decided to cover more utility cabinets in Strathcona County as well as other communities in Alberta due to the positive reaction to this pilot project. We are proud to be the first community in Alberta to have these anti-graffiti wraps installed.
Due to the positive response from our residents, some have asked if they may have a wrap in their neighbourhood or in front of their homes. Fortis Alberta owns this infrastructure and they plan the installations in order to provide their technicians access, deter graffiti on highly visible areas, and to ensure that they fulfill their safety requirements.
