Weekend itineraries: Open Farm Days
Spend some time on a farm this weekend
It’s Alberta Open Farm Days this weekend! There are plenty of farms participating in this year’s celebration, so make sure to stop by one and learn more about local agriculture and rural sustainability this weekend. The Ardrossan Agricultural Society has virtual celebrations for those who are unable to take part in person. Otherwise, Barr Estate Winery, Chicks-N-Chaps and Bar OA farms, along with Jackson Homesteaders and the Mennonite Heritage Farm all have events and tours happening in person. Open Farm Days is a great way to see how supporting local farmers and businesses affect those living in the same community. Make sure to take part in the celebrations this weekend!
Another great way to support local farmers is by stopping by one of the several Alberta approved farmers markets that we are lucky to have in Strathcona County:
- The Sherwood Park Farmers’ Market takes place on Wednesdays from 2 to 7 p.m. at 3000 Emerald Drive.
- The Salisbury Market is on Thursdays from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Salisbury Greenhouse.
- The Ardrossan Market is on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ardrossan Memorial Hall.
- The South Cooking Lake Market is on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Cooking Lake Community Hall.
With all of these options for Farmers’ Markets in Strathcona County, it’s easy to support local farmers and artisans this weekend.
