Supporting the success of local sport, recreation and culture community groups is a priority for Strathcona County. As part of this, spring and fall group workshops are available, where affiliates from sport, recreation and culture community groups can attend and learn some basics on how to get started with a sponsorship program, hear from guest speakers and network with other local groups.

Across the Board is a FREE workshop series that supports non-profits in Strathcona County to build strong, effective boards. This series is a collaboration with The Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO). Each workshop will focus on a specific topic aimed at strengthening volunteer boards

Across the Board runs its workshop series each year. If you have attended workshops in previous years, the content will be similar.

Governance versus Operations: Building Effective Pathways to Impact for Non-profits

Explore the many roles and responsibilities within governance and operations and how to effectively separate and manage these functions. Participants will learn best practices for governance, understand the operational tasks, and learn how to create a balanced and efficient leadership structure.

Non-profit Facilitator Training: Crafting Your Mission, Vision, and Values

This interactive beginner workshop will provide participants with an understanding of good mission, vision, and values, an overview of the facilitation process, training on how to facilitate the activities, and supply you with resources and tools to facilitate for your own organization.

Bylaws Lab: Freshen Your Bylaws and Make Them Future-ready

Learn the latest best practices and get help from the experts to make your bylaws fresh and future-ready in an evolving non-profit sector. Participants will leave with updated bylaws and the knowledge to make and update future bylaws. Multiple representatives from your organization are welcome.

This free event, sponsored by Strathcona County, Family and Community Services is designed for board members of community organizations in Strathcona County, offering a valuable opportunity to strengthen your governance practices while building connections with other board members who are asking similar questions.
