Holiday Closure

The Planning and Development Services offices will be closed from: 

DECEMBER 25, 2024, until JANUARY 1, 2025.  

We will re-open on January 2, 2025, with normal operating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

New codes for 2024

The National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition, National Fire Code – 2023 Alberta Edition and the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings 2020 will come into force on May 1, 2024.

The new codes will apply to any permit submitted on or after May 1, 2024.

Strathcona County's commercial development is concentrated in the Sherwood Park Urban Service Area. In the Rural Service Area, commercial development tends to be highway oriented through highway/tourist commercial uses or in the hamlets.

Strathcona County encourages complimentary commercial development, which will enhance the County's commitment to maintain and enhance the environment for future generations.
