This story was provided by Robin Hood Association to share the positive impact of housing affordability initiatives in our community.

Zach is 38 years old and has lived in his home for the past 15 years. Before moving in, life was stressful. Now, he has a place where he can be himself—a home that affords him the independence he values so much.

For Zach, home isn’t just a roof over his head; it’s a place that allows him to live his life with dignity and security. His home is close to everything he enjoys—whether that’s gaming, swimming, or hanging out with friends. It’s where he can wake up, make breakfast, take care of his daily responsibilities, and unwind with his favorite games. The staff at Robin Hood Association support him by helping with things like cooking and cleaning, but most importantly, they help ensure he can keep his home and continue living independently.

Without affordable housing, Zach knows he would struggle. He might have to move back in with his dad, losing the independence that means so much to him. But because he has a stable, affordable home, he can focus on building a future—one where he can earn a living, save money, and pursue his goal of running his own business one day.

Zach wants people to understand the truth about affordable housing. “It’s single mothers, seniors, people with disabilities, and people who just need a break,” he says. For Zach, his home is more than just a place to live—it’s a community, one that gives him peace, friendship, and the chance to live life on his own terms.

Affordable housing makes stories like Zach’s possible. It creates stability, builds community, and gives people the foundation they need to thrive.
