Municipal naming
In December 2024, Council approved an updated Municipal Naming Policy (137.7 KB) . The purpose of this policy is to establish a coordinated and consistent approach to the naming and renaming of development areas, roads, parks, public facilities and stormwater management facilities.
Strathcona County strives to recognize history, culture, heritage, natural features, and persons through naming. In addition to the policy, Planning and Development Services introduced a new Municipal Naming Procedure document (204.3 KB) which will further facilitate responsible naming practices within the County.
Names Reserve List
The Names Reserve List (79.2 KB) is a list of names approved by Council to be used for the potential future naming of development areas, roads, parks, public facilities and stormwater management facilities, which includes commemorative names.
