4.4 Parking design requirements
Required on-site parking spaces and drive aisles must comply with Table 4.4(A).

In the Urban Service Area and hamlets all on-site parking or loading area(s) and any access and driveway to such required parking, loading or queuing area(s) shall have a durable hardsurface of concrete, asphalt or similar material, except where alternatives are to the satisfaction of the development authority.
For commercial, industrial, or institutional uses in the Rural Service Area, any access shall be hard surfaced to prevent mud tracking and any on-site driveway, parking and loading areas shall be surfaced to the satisfaction of the development authority.
All parking areas shall have curbs and other protective measures to adequately protect adjacent buildings, fences, landscaping and walls from damage caused by vehicles.
All parking spaces shall be clear of all obstructions except:
- (a) structural columns; and
- (b) wheel stops, provided such wheel stops:
- (c) have a minimum height of 0.10 m;
- (d) are placed perpendicular to the vehicle parking space length; and
- (e) are a minimum of 0.60 m from the front of the parking space.
Heavy vehicle parking
For residential development, including home businesses, on-site parking space for heavy vehicles and mobile equipment shall be located so that it is generally not visible from a road or an adjacent dwelling. Parking of heavy vehicles shall not be permitted in a front yard.
Tandem parking spaces
Tandem parking may be considered for residential development. (Bylaw 46-2024)
Where tandem parking is proposed for an apartment dwelling or a townhouse dwelling within a planned site, the following shall apply:
(a) tandem parking shall only be assigned to the same dwelling unit; and
(b) tandem parking shall not be considered for visitor parking requirements
Compact vehicle parking spaces
The number of compact vehicle parking spaces shall not exceed 15% of the total number of parking spaces required for a site.
Compact vehicle parking spaces shall be clearly designated by above grade signs.
