Strathcona County Emergency Services is hiring Advanced Care Paramedics who want to join an integrated department. You will begin your career with us as an ACP working on the ambulance only and then join the next recruit class in August 2025 to start your career as a firefighter/paramedic.
This is an on-going posting for multiple full-time positions.
Responsibilities:Â
- ACP are assigned to the ambulance until the next recruit class (August 2025). After completion of recruit training, firefighter/paramedics are assigned to the ambulance or a fire apparatus on a rotating basis under the Responsibilities.
- Advanced Care Paramedics will safely respond to emergency and non-emergency scenes within established guidelines
- Participate in training programs, exercises and career development as necessary, including NFPA 1001’s to become a fully trained firefighter
- After recruit training is complete, firefighter/paramedics will be assigned to the ambulance or a fire apparatus on a rotating basis within our integrated service
- Duties are completed as assigned to support the implementation of effective, efficient and ethical procedures to meet the customer service, safety goals and objectives of the department
- Perform routine duties related to facilities and equipment maintenance
- Complete required reporting and administration functions
- Participate in special projects or tasks which support and promote the department mission, vision and values
Qualifications and skills:
- Fully registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic is a requirement upon application.Â
- Successfully passed completion of the University of Alberta Firefighter Physical Fitness test at the time of your application is required. We will accept successful results from the U of A completed within the previous 6 months of your application (i.e. if you apply December 1, 2024, you can use a successful test from June 1, 2024 or after).  Â
- NFPA 1001 Level I & II is an asset. Successful candidates will receive training for NFPA 1001’sÂ
- Emergency medical or fire response work experience along with current ITLS, PALS, ACLS certification is considered an asset
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, building and maintaining internal and external relationships

- Adaptability to changes in the work environment to best fit the situation or event
- Capacity to acquire and maintain new knowledge and competencies, striving to continuously build skills

Candidates for the ACP recruitment follow the application process for our regular open recruitment with the exception that they need to have successfully completed the Firefighter Physical Fitness test when applying.
