Recruitment information day

This is your chance to get up close with firefighter/paramedics, recruiters, equipment and experience some of the physical activities you will be required to do during the physical exam.

Each session is approximately 60 minutes and includes:

• a presentation where you learn about the process, the department and have the opportunity to ask questions 

• various stations will be set up putting participants through different physical activities in bunker gear.

  • Participants are asked to wear workout attire and bring boots (steel toed are preferred) and gloves.

  • You must be over 18 years of age to participate in physical activities. 

• EMS station with SIMs and you can ask questions about the medical knowledge and scenario testing. 

• various info booths on our specialty teams and wellness programs. 

• a tour of Fire Station 6. 

The expert panel discussion includes a Deputy Chief, Human Resources Talent Acquisition, Union Local 2461 representative and one of our probationary members of the department. This will be a great opportunity to complement the other recruitment sessions to ask further questions, get different perspectives and tips on how to prepare for the process.

This event is for those who are serious about a career with Strathcona County Emergency Services. Because the demand for this event is high, you must be a paramedic or currently enrolled in or accepted into a paramedic or EMT program.

Session spots are limited to 20 participants. Please cancel if you are no longer able to attend to allow someone from the waitlist to attend. Please sign up for one session. If you are on multiple waitlists and get into a session, please remove yourself from the other waitlists.

Ride along program

This program is available to those that are paramedics or are currently enrolled in a paramedic or EMR program and are 18+ years of age. Complete the  Ride Along Observer Program form (227.1 KB)  , scan and email it to Community Safety. 

Please allow up to three weeks for your application to be processed.
