Job Description

The Utilities Asset Management Technologist assists with the on-going development, implementation and operation of the Utilities department Asset Management Program. This position provides numerous asset management support activities including data collection, data entry, asset registry and workflow design.


This role involves close collaboration with supervisors from engineering, operations, and finance, as well as frontline asset management database users and maintenance staff with a goal to ensure that asset information is efficiently and effectively collected and managed, supporting long-term, evidence-based decision-making and fostering continuous improvement in asset management practices.


This role may be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 2 hours of Sherwood Park, Alberta.   



Responsibilities:


  • Support the development and implementation of Asset Management (AM) practices within the Utilities department for water, wastewater, stormwater, waste management and community energy infrastructure
  • Assist in advancing AM planning, asset risk assessments, options analyses, renewal planning and asset investment planning
  • Prepare conceptual plans, guiding documents and comprehensive reports capable of explaining complex issues to both technical and non-technical staff and external parties
  • Collaborate with Utilities engineering, operations and finance branches to implement best practices and work processes that support sustainable infrastructure
  • Assist with asset management specific initiatives that will increase the asset management maturity within the department
  • Conduct field asset data collection, develop maintenance plans, analyze, and research maintenance practices and procedures
  • Identify, quantify, and evaluate the existing conditions of all utilities systems and assist in providing lifecycle analysis for replacement, costing and risks
  • Provide ongoing support and advice to utilities staff on asset and maintenance management issues


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering or a diploma with a Civil Engineering Technology designation with a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of asset management experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) VueWorks or Asset Planner is preferred 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of asset management principles and maintenance best practices, including, but not limited to: Preventive Maintenance Optimization, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Maintenance Task Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, etc. 
  • Advanced technical asset management knowledge specifically related to water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure
  • A high degree of computer literacy and ability to use specialized engineering and computerized maintenance management software experience with VueWorks is considered an asset
  • Sound knowledge of infrastructure systems, principles, maintenance and operations
  • Strong interpersonal skills (written, oral & listening) with the ability to maintain a professional and positive image to establish and maintain effective working relationships 
  • Strong analytical skills to research and explore Asset Management methodology/best practices and apply the knowledge to advance Asset Management
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to provide technical guidance and resolve day-to-day technical issues
  • Perform multi-factored analysis employing analytical tools, evaluate potential options and propose feasible solutions
  • Leadership and motivation to ensure continuous advancement of Utilities’ department Asset Management initiatives
