Job Description

Do you enjoy full cycle accounting and serving as a trusted source of financial information for managers and directors? Are you skilled at effectively communicating financial details to non-accountants? This role might be for you! The Corporate Accountant in Financial and Strategic Services supports a portfolio of various departments and is responsible for financial planning and reporting functions while ensuring conformity to corporate policies and procedures. This position provides information and advice of a financial nature to department directors and managers, assisting in their respective departmental financial planning and reporting activities. This role also supports the Strategic Finance Coordinators in the delivery of financial information as required by Executive Leadership. 


This role may be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 2 hours of Sherwood Park, Alberta. 


Responsibilities:


  • Coordinates the development and submission of each department’s annual 4-year operating budget and 5/10-year capital budgets in accordance with corporate policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains systems for forecasting, monitoring, reporting, and analyzing department capital and operating costs
  • Provides recommendations to management for financial planning in accordance with department and corporate policies
  • Collects, reconciles, summarizes and analyzes all ongoing financial information relating to the budget, contracts, projects, and work-in-progress accounts
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for department management and the Strategic Finance Coordinator
  • Coordinates department activities associated with accounting, purchasing, payables, receivables, and cash receipting
  • Provides assistance to project managers in maintaining appropriate project cost records
  • Supports various projects within Financial and Strategic Services


Qualifications and Skills: 


  • An Accounting degree and a minimum of 3 years experience in accounting or a related area, or an Accounting diploma and a minimum of 5 years experience in accounting or a related area
  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation in progress or obtained is an asset
  • Knowledge of Oracle and Questica Budget is an asset 
  • Ability to apply advanced accounting principles with the knowledge and skills to maintain a complex set of accounting and budgeting records
  • Ability to perform financial and budgetary analyses, prepare financial reports and complex account reconciliation
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply excellent listening, speaking and writing skills
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and applies them towards leadership in a team environment
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, to produce reports, manage data and complete analysis
