Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented professional that thrives in a dynamic work environment? Join our dedicated team as a Property Taxation Supervisor, where you can leverage your expertise and passion for customer service!


The Property Taxation Supervisor is responsible for supervising property tax collection and cashier activities in accordance with the Municipal Government Act (MGA), County Bylaws, policy, and accounting standards, and for coordinating effective customer service and fee for service programs.  


Responsibilities:


  • Supervise the annual property tax collection process in compliance with the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and County Bylaws
  • Manage quality control measures to ensure accounting standards and reconciliation processes are met
  • Coordinate customer service and fee for service programs such as Tax Certificates 
  • Administrate annual legislated tax recovery process 
  • Prepare tax arrears list and ensure notification takes place 
  • Liaise with mortgage companies, lawyers, Service Alberta, and collection agencies 
  • Organize and facilitate tax recovery procedures including the annual property auction
  • Manage staff customer service standards to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Supervise and mentor Taxation Assistant’s to ensure consistent practices and effective communications
  • Provide assistance to the Director of Assessment & Tax including research and implementation of best practices (as required)


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Post secondary training/certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field combined with 7 years related experience within an assessment and tax, accounting or municipal policy work environment
  • Supervisory experience or training is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related data base software systems (TEMPEST)
  • Understanding of municipal policies, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of standard accounting practices
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, combined with a customer service focus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to handle confidential matters in a discreet and professional manner
  • Effective organization, critical thinking and time management skills
