Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Park Shop Supervisor the Parks Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance, service and repair of Parks equipment to maintain safety and ensure it is in proper operating condition.
This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 12 months
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance checks in the servicing and repair of equipment and vehicles in accordance with manufacturer’s directives to ensure optimal performance
- Conduct detailed inspections of equipment for defects or required repairs
- Maintain detailed service orders, repair orders and equipment records
- Execute requirements for all unit specific servicing and repairs to ensure proper performance
- Assist in preparing and maintaining equipment inventory list, repair schedule, lifecycle and replacement schedule for all Parks equipment
- Assist shop supervisor maintaining inventory of shop tools, parts and supplies
- Respond to emergencies in the field to make repairs in a timely and efficient manner; keep equipment downtime to a minimum, while maintaining safety standards
- Identify workload priorities and assign resources as appropriate to complete tasks in a safe and efficient manner
- Ensure proper operating and servicing practices are applied for all tools and equipment
- Apply knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation and Code, and other safety guidelines to ensure own safety and the safety of all individuals on work sites
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years experience in related equipment service and repair years related experience
- Licensed Journeyperson and/or Red Seal Heavy Duty On-Road and Off-Road Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Technician (equivalent experience with Agricultural Equipment and small engines may be considered)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Asset management data entry software
- Sound mechanical knowledge with the analytical ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, drive systems and engine components on small, automotive and heavy-duty gasoline and diesel engines
- Thorough knowledge of agriculturally based equipment such as tractors, top dressers, seeders and fertilizer
- Knowledge of OH&S, and WHMIS Regulations, First Aid, CPR, and other relevant industry standards
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills, including the ability to promote teamwork, and support staff
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload with multiple requests for action
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to provide direction and convey instructions to staff members, address issues and concerns, and respond to requests
- Strong attention to detail including maintaining, cleaning, and organizing shop and work area to control hazards
Conditions of Employment:
- Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Air brake endorsement (Q)
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
