Job Description

Join our dynamic Recreation Parks and Culture team as an Event Supervisor and spearhead exciting recreation, agriculture, and cultural events that enrich our community. In this pivotal role, you’ll blend leadership with political acumen and coordination expertise to ensure every event runs smoothly and efficiently. You’ll be the driving force behind attracting and managing County-led and community-led initiatives, fostering strong relationships and promoting vibrant, inclusive programs. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with regional, community and internal teams to attract, deliver and retain recreation, agriculture and cultural events
  • Coordinate and implement strategies for both sport tourism and large-scale events
  • Act as an ambassador for Strathcona County by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with vendors, community and regional groups, internal departments, contractors and volunteers
  • Research, develop, implement and evaluate the Recreation, Parks and Culture (RPC) tourism hosting plan
  • Lead policy and process implementation/improvement for recreation (sport), agriculture and cultural events
  • Supervise and lead the team who coordinate annual community Strathcona County events, including coordinators, volunteers, vendors and contractors
  • Oversee the event volunteer management and training program, as well as event safety and emergency planning and coordination
  • Budget and administration management including managing event budgets, ensuring financial guidelines are adhered to, and preparing reports and correspondence related to events and specialized programs as required
  • Research, Coordinate, implement and manage County-led event attraction grant applications (provincial and federal), as well as coordinate Strathcona County community-led event grants (CREST, large-scale events, etc.)
  • Oversee and work collaboratively with the events team, RPC marketing and corporate communications to develop and implement comprehensive event promotions, public relation strategies and protocol
  • Conduct evaluations after events and specialized programs to assess success, gather feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post secondary Diploma or Degree plus 5 year’s leadership experience related to event planning, facilities, community development, policy development and public service
  • In-depth knowledge of multi-sport events/sports tourism and strong understanding of event coordination, sponsorship, marketing and communications
  • Knowledge of Strathcona County policies and standards, operations/services and other government agencies as they pertain to event, sport tourism, multi-sport games promotion, agricultural and cultural events, and community development 
  • Experience coordinating and managing community grant programs, such as event attraction or support grants
  • Proven experience in managing budgets, including event budgets, financial reporting, and adherence to organizational financial policies and guidelines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively facilitate solutions with multiple internal and external groups/partners
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage diverse projects and duties related to event and services execution
  • Ability to work independently and quickly adjust priorities while working under pressure and time constraints
  • Strong political acumen and diplomacy are essential

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
