This posting is for 1 seasonal full-time position up to 7 months (April to October) with the possibility of extension.
Do you have a keen eye for detail, are passionate about safety, and an ability for spotting issues before they become problems? We’re looking for an Infrastructure Inspector to help keep our transportation infrastructure in top condition!
In this role, you’ll be driving out in the field, assessing County roadways and other critical road related infrastructure – making a real impact on public safety and efficiency. If you’re a proactive problem-solver with a background in inspections, construction or civil engineering, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and detailed inspections on all road related infrastructure in Strathcona County (including roads, sidewalks, ditches, parking lots, etc.) in accordance with approved policies and standards
- Assess infrastructure, road markings, signage, and safety barriers for current conditions, liability hazards, and compliance with regulations
- Identify and document defects, deterioration, and potential hazards
- Complete scheduled inspections, reports, as well as formal monthly inspection summaries
- Provide detailed action requests to Operations that require immediate action
- Provide detailed infrastructure reports and data to ensure that standards are met through planned projects and to support project updates
- Inspect and review completed operational projects, as needed, for quality assurance
- Provide updates and quality reports for formal quality assurance review
- Communicate with landowners to address resident concerns by investigating and providing responses to inquiries
- Liaise and act as a resource to the department within the regional transportation industry
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma with 2 to 3 years of related experience
- Related Post Secondary Diploma would be considered an asset
- Municipal infrastructure maintenance and construction experience is preferred
- Knowledge of transportation infrastructure, construction standards and temporary traffic control
- Ability to compare past inspections with current conditions and advise of infrastructure deterioration of all transportation assets
- Basic computer skills and mobile device literacy, experience with GIS related software is considered an asset
- Ability to be alert when working in busy traffic locations and on construction sites
- High attention to detail is required for updating databases and conducting analysis of data
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills within established methodologies and specifications
- Able to take initiative, work independently, and manage tasks with minimal supervision
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Ability to work in remote rural areas within Strathcona County
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk/drive for extended periods of time
