Job Description

This posting is for multiple hourly seasonal positions


The Waste Diversion Attendant will assist with supporting the day-to-day operations of the Enviroservice Station within Strathcona County. This position supports Strathcona County’s Waste Management programs, rural and urban recycle stations, as well as the education and outreach activities related to the Waste Management program. 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Working in all weather, indoor/outdoor, maintaining urban and rural recycling stations as well as yard waste stations; ensuring stations are clean, orderly, accessible and safe for use by customers
  • Liaise and assist customers in the use of Strathcona County’s Waste Management Services and initiatives
  • Offer assistance and answer questions from customers regarding the Enviroservice program under the direction of the Supervisor and the Lead Waste Diversion Attendant
  • Assist in the setup, operation, safe handling, preparation and packaging of collected material for transport by contract processors


Qualifications and Skills:


  • High school diploma with related customer service experience
  • Current WHMIS and Standard First Aid is an asset
  • Experience with municipal residential paint and household hazardous waste collection is an asset
  • Knowledge of OHS policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Strong customer service skills to engage, influence, and collaborate effectively with users
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments and demands of peak use periods
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work effectively both independently and within a team
  • Ability to identify and safely handle material left at recycle stations using operational policies and material handling information


Conditions of Employment


  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
