Job Description

This posting is for multiple full-time summer positions for up to 4 months (May to August) with the possibility of extension.


Responsibilities


  • Provide project management assistance in all aspects of concrete and asphalt maintenance, drainage and gravel maintenance, as well as capital projects
  • Coordinate quality control activities for capital projects in both rural and urban areas (eg: residential rehabilitation program, arterial rehabilitation program, rural road re-gravel, rural drainage inspection and improvements)
  • Provide survey investigations and analysis to both urban and rural areas
  • Seek solutions to assigned challenges on special projects through research and analysis 
  • Provide recommendations to project staff and stakeholders based on research findings 
  • Assist in the development of presentations and reports for stakeholders
  • Assist project management staff to conduct and chair stakeholder meetings


Qualifications and Skills


  • Completed the first year of a related post-secondary Degree or Diploma, with intent to continue in the program (eg: Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics Technology, etc.)
  • Previous construction related experience would be considered an asset 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment


Conditions of Employment


  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits 
  • Reliable personal transportation is required (no public transit routes to the Transportation Engineering and Operations office)
  • Ability to work in an office environment and/or in the field as required (including remote rural areas)
