Job Description

This posting is for one hourly position for up to 12 weeks (May -August 2025)


The Camp Life Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, planning, leading, and overseeing the daily program aspects of the Strathcona Wilderness Center summer day camps and is the team lead for the Junior Outdoor Leader (JOL) program. The Camp Life Coordinator also acts as the bridge between the Assistant Recreation Programmer and the Sumer Camp leaders to maintain the flow each day of the week. They support all aspects of ‘camp life’ which includes but is not limited to, assisting with camp operations, participant supervision as needed, planning camp themes and activities, camp menus, camper well-being and creating a sense of camp community. 


 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Logistic and organization of camp area including managing equipment and supplies, and planning meals and snacks for camp
  • Conducting camp emergency safety drills and managing lost and found items 
  • Overseeing the Junior Outdoor Leader (JOL) program
  • Program planning and coordination including planning community meetings, skills and themes, coordinating camp-wide games, activities, and large-scale camp events
  • Prepare for overnight camps with equipment support and planning
  • Various administrative work involving assisting with paperwork, forms and ensuring completeness
  • Implement training by coordinating, planning, delivering, and leading training programs 
  • Collaborate and coordinate a leadership training day to youth volunteer program participants 
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders including questions, concerns, scheduling or location changes


Qualifications and Skills:


  • High school diploma, and in the process of obtaining or have completed post-secondary education in physical education, recreation, tourism, education, environmental studies or a related field.
  • 2 years related experience in program planning and coordination, program delivery, recreational outdoor skills, adventure education, or other related experience. 
  • 40 or 80 hour Wilderness Advanced First Aid would be considered and asset
  • Ability to maintain high standards of respect, safety, quality, and cooperation 
  • Time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Positive and professional attitude with strong communication skills in order to facilitate positive interactions with diverse groups of individuals including co-workers, supervisors, and parents/guardians
  • Approachable leadership that is open, responsive, fair, and cooperative to foster a team environment


 


Conditions of Employment:


  • Current First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification
  • Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
