Job Description

This posting is for 1 hourly summer position, 30hrs/week starting on May 5, 2025 with an anticipated end date of August 29, 2025

As the Assistant Recreation Programmer, you will provide a high level of support to Child & Youth programs and services by providing program coordination, communications, delivery and evaluation. You would also provide support to the Recreation Programmer by assisting in overseeing summer staff and Leaders in Training participants, as well as the planning and marketing of programs.


 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide administrative support to the Child & Youth Programming team 
  • Collaborate with the Child & Youth Programming team to develop and update various manuals and summer reports 
  • Assist Child & Youth Programming team with various ongoing projects
  • Assist with the planning, promotion, preparation and co-ordination of the Leaders in Training (LIT) Program, involving up to 70 youth each summer, grades 7 – 12
  • Attend and assist with training program participants 
  • Provide leadership development to participants through weekly site visits with the Child & Youth Programming team
  • Administrative duties for the LIT program (ie. sending weekly evaluations, updating programming spreadsheet, etc.) 
  • Assist in the delivery of high-quality summer camp programs for youth ages 6Y-12Y with the Child & Youth Programming team
  • Assist with supply purchasing, management of summer camp field trips and storage room organization
  • Weekly camp preparation (ie. restocking camp forms in site binders, packing equipment bags, printing waivers, etc.) 
  • Support the instructor team in meeting ratios for swimming, change rooms, field trips and various summer camp activities in case of last-minute instructor illness/unavailability


 


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Excellent communication, leadership and team building skills, with proven ability to maintain high standards of safety, quality and cooperation
  • Ability to work both independently, on a team, and in a variety of environments
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proven time management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise in Child & Youth Wellness programming
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), scheduling software (When to Work), and knowledge of safe work practices
  • Experience working with Intelligenz software is an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development Model, physical literacy and fundamental movement skills is an asset. 
  • High School Diploma with 4 years of related experience
  • Summer camp experience is preferred 
  • HIGH FIVE® Training (Principles of Healthy Child Development) is an asset 
  • In-Progress or completed Post-Secondary Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation and Leisure (BARST – Recreation, Sports & Tourism Degree), or a related field is preferred
  • Recreation related supervisory or leadership experience is preferred
  • Considerable experience working within area of expertise (Child & Youth) in a teaching, mentoring, leading, volunteering, tutoring or coaching role


 


Conditions of Employment:


  • Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check 
  • Must have a reliable method of transportation as well as Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C is required
  • Current and valid CPR, AED, Standard First Aid and WHMIS certifications
  • Available to work 30 hours per week including weekends and evenings as required
