Job Description
The Team Lead I position contributes to the maintenance and improvement of outdoor recreational opportunities for the residents of Strathcona County and other members of the public.
This role is relied on to train and assign work to crew members, including operators and labourers, as well as make on-site decisions. This role applies knowledge of the development and operation of the golf course and open spaces to support crews in understanding the mission of the department and associated relationship to work being performed in the assigned operational area. These areas include but are not limited to trees, weeds, wildlife, shrub beds, rough turf, pathways, cross-country ski-trails, and toboggan hills.
Operational areas in which this position works include Park Development, Urban Forestry and Horticulture, Landscaping and Events, Outdoor Premier Areas and Skating, Mowing and Waste Diversion and Broadmoor Public Golf Course (BPGC).
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees operation of equipment in assigned operational area, training staff in day-to-day equipment monitoring, maintaining, and servicing to ensure equipment is in proper working order and meets operating standards
- Maintains accurate records pertaining to parks infrastructure for the assigned operational area toassist with life cycle, future growth, and operational planning
- Supervising staff members, including scheduling and monitoring workload; responding to questions; facilitating and attending meetings; and conducting site inspections
- Providing and supporting HR functions such as recruitment, hiring, interviews, performance feedback, discipline and development and training
- Ensure proper operating and servicing practices are applied for all tools and equipment in the assigned operational area, conducting regular staff safety meetings and risk assessments
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma with 4 years related experience
- Extensive progressive experience in the assigned operational area (e.g., landscaping, construction, forestry, horticulture, park maintenance, golf course, agricultural or irrigation)
- Supervisory experience and relevant leadership training
- Relevant certifications relating to assigned operational area are considered an asset
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g. WHMIS, First Aid and CPR) are considered an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is preferred
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 
- Applicants for the Team Lead I position at BPGC must have or be willing to obtain a Q-endorsement and a Pesticide Applicators License
