Job Description
As a Specialized Transit Scheduler/Dispatcher, you’ll play a crucial role in contributing to reliable and streamlined transportation services with Strathcona County. In this role, you will handle client booking requests, manage operator schedules and dispatching duties.

This posting is for 1 permanent part-time position
Key Responsibilities:
- Use scheduling software to schedule subscription trips, reservation bookings and same day bookings, taking into account a multitude of factors- variable route system, customer restrictions, road and weather conditions, and geographical service area.
- Review booking information for accuracy and make adjustments to ensure the optimization of schedule/work as well as mitigate any capacity issues
- Create operator manifest and notify operators of their shift assignments
- Connect with clients to provide travel information for their transportation the following day
- Update client information where necessary
- Respond to a variety of calls related to service delivery including, service inquires/complaints, client requests, and requests for assistance from operators for on-road issues
- Liaise with operators, clients, caregivers, caregiver agencies, and members of the general public
- Assist in the resolution of issues and concerns regarding scheduling, time changes and bus capacity
- Co-ordinate routing/trip changes, cancellations, no shows or changes to origin or destination of trips
- Monitor two-way radio traffic with operators
- Contact operators via two-way radio, software system, cell phone and/or email in order to provide work or client information as required
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School diploma or Equivalent plus three years transportation industry experience including a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in dispatching/scheduling
- Proficient computer skills including Office 365
- Knowledge and experience working with specialized transit scheduling software
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Ability to remain calm when handling emotional, challenging or distressed clients as well as address service disruptions caused by inclement weather or mechanical issues
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a strong capacity to prioritize competing requests and tasks in a timely manner
- Must have attention to detail and accuracy as well as ability to review information to ensure fairness and consistency and follow up on any discrepancies
- Considerable knowledge of the geographical area would be considered an asset
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of residents with physical and cognitive disabilities, their families, and caregiver agencies, and the general public, using judgement and sensitivity
