Job Description

 This posting is for 1 non-permanent hourly part-time position for up to 4 months


 


The Accounting Assistant for Recreation, Parks and Culture provides valuable support to the accounting team by assisting with reoccurring journal entries, offering reporting support and contributing to cash balancing activities. With meticulous attention to detail, this role reviews expenditures for accuracy, timeliness and adherence to corporate policies and procedures. This role will be part-time from May – August, working 28 hours per week.  


 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist Recreation, Parks and Culture (RPC) Finance team with various general accounting tasks such as (but not limited to): 
    • Employee Expense review and correction of general ledger coding 
    • Suspense account reclassifications for PO’s coded incorrectly
    • Entering Journal Entries 
    • Creation of spreadsheets and reports to assist with analyzing budgets 
    • Assist finance team with department accounting and finance duties as required 
  • Run and review monthly reports to distribute to Cost Center Supervisors, including reports to further investigate and resolve variances 
  • Process One Time Payments and Non-PO Invoices using applicable Corporate forms 
  • Assist Recreation, Parks and Culture Finance team with various general accounting tasks 
  • Complete daily cash reconciliations for the Recreation Systems and assist with facility cash audits 
  • Conduct quarterly and year end reviews of Open PO’s to support RPC Accountants, as well as support the Accounting Services Coordinator to process any manual quarterly and year end accruals 


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Business program with specialization in Accounting or Finance  with up to 5 years related experience 
  • Ability to recognize and flag items that require further investigation as well as come to a resolution to issue 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel knowledge of formulas (vlookup, if error) and pivot tables  
  • General Accounting knowledge 
  • Knowledge of Oracle and SharePoint would be considered an asset 
  • High attention to detail 
  • Ability to adjust to competing demands and frequent changing priorities  
  • Strong time management skills
