Job Description

This posting is for multiple seasonal positions based out of Broadmoor Lake Park, Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion or Strathcona Athletic Park   


The Outdoor Attendant contributes to the maintenance and improvement of outdoor recreational opportunities for the residents of Strathcona County and other members of the public through performance of manual labour and other tasks as operational experience is gained.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Monitor the turf, ice surface, and building conditions for hazards, maintenance, etc. 
  • Prepare the facility for use by guests ensuring surroundings are safe and clean 
  • Perform manual tasks required in Outdoor Premier Areas and Skating with the use of hand power tools and equipment (e.g. rakes, mops, brooms, snow shovels, ice chippers, etc.) 
  • Learn the safe operation procedures of small equipment (e.g., backpack blowers, ATV’s, walk behind snowblowers) 
  • Operate trucks up to and including one ton 
  • Stock facility change rooms, washrooms and janitorial storage rooms with cleaning supplies as required 
  • Monitor the safe and orderly conduct of recreational users on the turf, ice, and in buildings


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Previous experience as facility attendant or winter operations and outdoor rink maintenance is an asset 
  • First Aid / CPR and AED training certificate is an asset 
  • WHMIS Certificate is an asset
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 
  • Ability to build healthy rapport with coworkers 
  • Perform duties in inclement weather, with possible exposure to severe weather conditions 
  • Ability to communicate well with different audiences 


Conditions of Employment:


  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays
