Help cram a cruiser full of donations for the Strathcona Food Bank

On Thursday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Strathcona County Enforcement Services alongside the RCMP will be collecting donations for the Strathcona Food Bank. Staff will be onsite at three local grocery stores with a police cruiser to encourage shoppers to fill the cruiser full of donations.

Last year, Cram a Cruiser collected over 4,700 lbs of food and $900 in donations.

“Over the last few years, we’ve seen firsthand how generous our community can be,” said Tom Sutton, director of RCMP and Enforcement Services. “Every can, box and dollar donated makes a real difference for families in need. We’re proud to support the Strathcona Food Bank and grateful to everyone who helps fill the cruiser.”

In 2024, the Strathcona Food Bank distributed 7,824 hampers and served 24,458 people, a 30% increase from 2023. As food insecurity continues to increase in our community, Cram a Cruiser organizers hope that those who are able can continue to support this initiative. The food bank’s most needed donation items for fall include:

  • canned fruit and fruit cup 4-packs (no added sugar)
  • no-sugar-added fruit juice, large tetras
  • tomato sauce (unseasoned)
  • ready-to-serve soups and chili
  • feminine hygiene products
  • canned beans in sauce
  • pudding cups, 4-packs
  • toothbrushes & toothpaste
  • bar soap
  • shampoo and conditioner
  • shaving razors
  • dish soap

Nice to have donations include baby wipes, diapers and pull-ups in sizes 4t-6t, and dry pet food.

All donations collected on October 9 will stay in Strathcona County, in support of the Strathcona Food Bank.
