The 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games Cross-country Skiing competition took place at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. On-site parking was not available for spectators; a shuttle bus was available on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 to and from Uncas Elementary School for members of the public to attend.

Cross-country skiing overview / rules

Cross-country skiing is a form of skiing where skiers propel themselves across snow-covered terrain, rather than using downhill momentum or ski lifts. Cross-country skiing is recognized as an official sport by Special Olympics Canada, and follows rules based on the Cross-country skiing rules of competition.

Events are divisioned between male and female and according to qualifying divisions of ability for each event. Each event involves different techniques and distances.

Classic Technique: 100m, 500m, 1km, 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km, 10km

There will be over 10 Special Olympics athletes from 3 Alberta affiliates and Saskatchewan competing in cross country skiing in the 2023 Winter Games.
