Each year, the County completes construction projects in support of the Recreation and Culture Strategy.

Projects include a range of amenities, from new trails, gazebos and picnic shelters, to basketball courts, skate parks and playground expansions.

New picnic shelters

Gazebos and picnic shelters provide a welcoming space for social gatherings and improve safety and accessibility, while offering shade and shelter from the elements.

Lifecycle replacement project

In 2025, the St. Nicholas School tennis court and basketball court will undergo improvements as part of the County’s lifecycle replacement program.


Playground expansion and basketball court

As part of a Community Partnership Project, Heritage Hills Elementary School will experience a playground expansion and the construction of a basketball half court on the school site in 2025.


New trail construction

Multi-use trails provide residents with opportunities to actively connect to surrounding neighbourhoods and experience a greater quality of life.

  • Range Road 231 trail extension (Phase 1)

Edmonton – Strathcona County Footbridge amenities

Construction is planned in 2025 to support the Edmonton – Strathcona County Footbridge project that links Township Road 540 with 167 Avenue and connects people to the trail systems within the North Saskatchewan River Valley. 

This project will include trail, parking lot and amenities on Township Road 540.
