Sherwood Drive Functional Improvements

Summary of improvements

See the fly-through video of planned Sherwood Drive Functional Improvements:

Upgrades planned along Sherwood Drive from Village Drive to Ash Street/ Wye Road Gardens include improvements to the intersections and corridor to improve traffic safety and capacity:

  • Addition of a double left turn lane westbound on Wye Road, turning onto Sherwood Drive/Range Road 233 (south)
  • Lengthen the left turn lane for vehicles going northbound to westbound at the Wye Road/Sherwood Drive intersection
  • Lengthen the northbound left turn lane from Sherwood Drive onto Fir Street (west)
  • Removal of traffic signals and conversion of the all-directional access along Range Road 233 at Walmart/Ordze Avenue to right-in/right-out and north bound left-in only
  • Conversion of the all directional access along Sherwood Drive at Sherwood Centre (Petro Canada/Shoppers Drug Mart) to right-in/right-out only
  • Relocation of traffic signals on Range Rd 233 at Walmart/Ordze Avenue access, south to Ash Street/Wye Road Gardens

Benefit of improvements

  • Reduce delays at the Wye/Sherwood intersection during peak traffic hours by increasing the left turn capacity at the intersection
  • Reduce overall Sherwood Drive corridor delays during peak traffic hours by maximizing left turn storage areas and eliminating locations where left turning vehicles block adjacent through lanes at the Fir, Wye and Ordze intersections
  • Improve safety by removing unsafe turns and reducing vehicle and pedestrian conflict points
