Strathcona County has recycling and proper disposal events based in rural areas of the County. Events are available for all residents, regardless if you are a County waste collection customer.

South Cooking Lake recycle events

Monthly events are held at Fire Station #2 located at 22142 South Cooking Lake Road. Residents can drop off acceptable items 24 hours a day during event dates.

2025 Monthly recycle events dates

January 25 - February 2 July 26 – August 3
February 22 – March 2 August 30 – September 7
March 29 – April 6 September 27 – October 5
April 26 – May 4 October 25 – November 2
May 24 – June 1 November 29 – December 7
June 28 – July 6 December 25 – January 4

A commingled recycling bin will be set up on site. Acceptable items for the bin include:

  • corrugated cardboard (flattened, clean and dry)
  • mixed paper (inserts, flyers, cereal boxes, computer paper, etc.)
  • newspaper
  • aluminum cans and containers (clean and in original shape)
  • hard plastic containers, tubs and bottles (clean, with no lids or caps)

We will also have a cart on site for glass only.

In an effort to ensure these events are successful and continue, please put items in the correct bins and only drop off accepted items. Report illegal dumping to Enforcement Services 780-449-0170.

Rural Enviroservice events

There are Enviroservice events to assist rural residents in diverting electronics, paint, batteries, household hazardous waste and other materials.

Please note appliances and metal are not accepted at these locations. Please bring them to the Broadview Enviroservice Station in Sherwood Park.
