Recycle program expanding
Starting October 1, 2026, you can now recycle even more materials in your blue bag including hot and cold drink cups, film plastic and foam meat trays and take out containers!
As part of the provincial Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, these changes will standardize recycling across the province, make recycling easier for residents, improve recovery rates and help advance a circular economy in Alberta.
Strathcona County has recycling and proper disposal events based in rural areas of the County. Events are available for all residents, regardless if you are a County waste collection customer.

South Cooking Lake recycle events
Monthly events are held at Fire Station #2 located at 22142 South Cooking Lake Road. Residents can drop off acceptable items 24 hours a day during event dates.

A commingled recycling bin will be set up on site. Check the list of acceptable items.
In an effort to ensure these events are successful and continue, please put items in the correct bins and only drop off accepted items. Report illegal dumping to Enforcement Services 780-449-0170.
Rural Enviroservice events
There are Enviroservice events to assist rural residents in diverting electronics, paint, batteries, household hazardous waste and other materials.

Please note appliances, metal, and normal household waste are not accepted at these locations. Please bring them to the Broadview Enviroservice Station in Sherwood Park.
Subscribe to weekly collection
Strathcona County Utilities provides waste, organics and recycling collection to all residential properties in the County, including those in the rural areas. Our intention is to provide quality services to our residents and reduce the amount of materials going to the landfill.
