The toilet rebate program has ended.

Since 2004, the toilet rebate program has replaced 4,675 toilets for an annual savings of 1,706,193 m3. This volume of water is enough to supply all the homes in Sherwood Park for a full week.

The program ended for several reasons. WaterSense™ toilets used to represent only a few models out of a retailer’s toilet inventory. Now, almost all toilets sold are WaterSense™, so there’s no benefit in offering incentives to purchase the most common brands.

Additionally, in 2004, guidelines for new homes required low flow fixtures, including toilets. After 19 years of new buildings and updated bathrooms, the number of existing 13 litre toilets is very low.

We encourage residents to continue to look for the WaterSense™ logo when purchasing water fixtures in your home for both energy and water savings.
