The 2021 Strathcona County Awards of Excellence recipients have distinguished themselves and contributed to our community in many ways. Showing leadership, strength and courage to help others, building a safer community and mentoring our youth are some of the achievements that will be celebrated at the Strathcona County Awards of Excellence.

Strathcona County gets outstanding approval for its emergency services and quality of life

May 17, 2021 (Strathcona County, Alberta) – Strathcona County’s Public Satisfaction Survey results are in and residents are giving the municipality high marks. 92 per cent said that they were happy with the County’s emergency services. For quality of life, 81 per cent of residents said Strathcona County was a great place to retire and 93 per cent said the County was a great place to raise a family.

Several arterial road construction projects starting in May

Permanent traffic flow changes are coming to the intersection at Walmart and Ordze Avenue, with the final phase of construction on the Sherwood Drive Functional Improvement projects now underway.

Access to affordable housing, defined as spending less than 30 per cent of household income on housing, has a positive impact on family stability, community cohesion and health outcomes. 

Local artistic talent is being showcased through the Strathcona Salon Series virtual exhibit hosted by Gallery@501 from May 13 to June 19. The exhibit includes artwork from both adults and high school students. All artwork submitted to the series is being considered for acquisition by the Strathcona County’s Art Collection.

This week, Grade 1 and 2 students from 23 Strathcona County schools celebrated Arbor Day by participating in virtual educational activities and receiving a seedling of their very own. 

Strathcona County is asking for volunteers to have a water sample collected from their homes for lead testing. Testing water for lead ‘at the tap’ is a new municipal requirement and supports Health Canada’s lead reduction strategy.
